Work History
Partially staked within Ray cl 1-466 (97882) in Jan/66 by Nordex Exploration Ltd, which carried out regional geochemical stream sediment sampling. Restaked as Axe cl 1-6 (Y38255) in Oct/69 by Montana Mines Ltd, which added Hill cl 1-24 (Y47622) to the northeast in Dec/69 and carried out geochemical rock and soil sampling in 1970.
The area just east of the occurrence location marker was restaked as Battle cl 1-64 (YA48595) in Apr/80 by Cominco Ltd, which carried out geochemical sampling and geological mapping later in the year.
Restaked as Hen cl, etc (YA92240) in Jun/85 by Nordac Mining Corporation and optioned briefly to Gyro Energy and Minerals Corporation later in the year. In 1986, Nordac carried out geochemical sampling and geological mapping of the area to the southwest (Minfile Occurrence #115J 017).
Restaked as Battle cl 1-80 (YB57561) by Cominco Ltd in May/95. In Jun/95, Cominco carried out 4 man days of geological mapping, prospecting and soil sampling.
Restaked as Eio cl 1-10 (YC14002) in Mar/99 by Prime Properties Syndicate and subsequently optioned to Prospector International Resources Inc, which carried out reconnaissance geochemical sampling later that year. In Sep/99, Prospector International staked Eio cl 11-16 (YC18150) to the northwest and carried out geochemical grid soil sampling and geological mapping of the claims in 2000. Prospector International changed its name to Prospector Consolidated Resources Inc in Sep/2001 and later dropped its option on the claims in Mar/2002.
Restaked as Royal cl 1-12 (YC60328) in Apr/2007 by S. Ryan. Ryan carried out a reconnaissance scale soil sampling program on the claims and surrounding ridges in Jul/2008.
Capsule Geology
The area was previously thought to be underlain by the Triassic-aged Klotassin Batholith but more recent mapping by Payne et al. (1987), Johnston (1995) and Cominco found that the area is underlain by a granodioritic phase of the mid Cretaceous Dawson Range Batholith.
Nordex staked the original claims to explore for silver-lead veins, but only background levels for base metals were returned from samples collected in the area. Soil samples collected by Montana Mines from a pyritic granite in the east central part of the Hill claims returned anomalous copper and molybdenum values, with peak values of 384 and 10 ppm respectively. Further work uncovered a zone of disseminated to vein/fractured-hosted chalcopyrite-pyrite-molybdenite +/- bornite mineralization at the headwaters of the west branch of Battle Creek, 3 km to the east. Grab samples collected from this area in 1994/95 by Cominco returned peak values of 1 460 ppm copper, 217 ppm molybdenum and 100 ppb gold.
Soil sampling completed by Cominco in 1980 and 1995 mirrored results reported by earlier exploration programs. Two copper-molybdenum +/- gold anomalies were outlined in the central and south-eastern corners of the Battle claim block at the contact between the Dawson Range Batholith and a quartz bearing, weakly feldspar porphyritic monzonite stock of the Late Cretaceous Prospector Mountain plutonic suite.
Prospector International focused its work in an area just northwest of the occurrence location and identified a discontinuous, east-west trending gold-arsenic-bismuth-silver anomaly measuring 150 by 550 m underlain by locally tourmaline bearing and chloritized Dawson Range Batholith granodiorite. The anomaly which contains peak values of 1 254 ppb gold, 163.1 ppm arsenic, 17.84 ppm bismuth and 3 071 ppb silver is discontinuous due to gaps in the sampling caused by areas of extensive talus cover.
Ryan staked the Royal claims to follow up a 300 ppb gold silt anomaly recorded near the headwaters of Trombley Creek by the Geological Survey of Canada in 1986. Ryan collected 20 soil samples across the top of the ridge located on the east side of the claim block. Ryan collected a further 76 soil sample across the western edge of the ridge and on neighbouring ridges located southwest of the claim block (off the claim block). The survey did not return any significant anomalies.
