Work History

Staked as Donna cl 1-16 (YB39500) in October, 1990 by D. Laurenson. The Good cl 1-2 (YB44879) were staked to the south near the mouth of Morris Gulch in July, 1993 by C.R. Little, who transferred them to Klondike Reef Mines in March of 1994.

In July, 1995, R. Beckett staked HB cl 1-32 (YB53915) 8 km to the east.

In May, 1999, A. Rudis and R. Nordling staked Cher cl 1-16 (YC16134) 8 km to the west and Bon cl 1-4 (YC16150) 5 km to the west. In the summer of 1999, the men prospected and collected 54 bedrock samples from outcrop exposed along the Henderson Creek road which cuts through both claim groups.

Capsule Geology

The region surrounding the occurrence has not yet been re-mapped in detail by the Yukon Geological Survey, but extrapolations can be made with Mortensen's (1996) geological mapping carried out to the north and the Gordey et al., compilation published in 1999. Bedrock in the area appears to consist of Devonian to Mississippian and older metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks assigned to the Nasina assemblage. Granitic gneiss, thought to be Mississippian in age and assigned to the Pelly Gneiss suite, locally occurs as bodies within the Nasina assemblage. Late Cretaceous Carmacks Group volcanics occur over Henderson Dome and underlie much of the Henderson Creek road located between Henderson Dome and Black Hills Creek.

The original Donna and Good claims straddled the upper part of Black Hills Creek and were probably staked in conjunction with placer mining.

Nordling and Rudis' 1999 exploration program was preliminary in nature and was undertaken to evaluate the area's potential to host epithermal or intrusive gold mineralization. From the brief sample descriptions provided, it appears the local geology matches that suggested in Gordey's compilation geology map. The best result returned 2,280 ppb Au, 315 ppm Zn, and 2,696 ppm As from a grab sample described as consisting of highly bleached quartz, feldspar and weathered pyrite and classified as a possible quartz monzonite.
