Work History

Staked as Blueberry and Blackberry cl (4647) in May/01. Restaked as Consolation and Peterhara cl (12040) in Oct/10 and as Black Fox cl (12439) in Aug/14. Development was limited to an open cut 2.4 - 3 m deep in 1915. The Queen Anne Hill cl (4616) was staked in Sep/00 1.6 km from the head of Thistle Creek, and the Bluebell cl (39064) was staked on Tulare Hill (Thistle Mountain?) in Aug/37.
Restaked as Red cl 1-16 (Y56735) in Apr/70 by M. Stutter. Klondike Reef Gold Mines Ltd staked Cor cl 1-165 (YB31541) 3 km to the west and northwest In Aug/90.
Restaked as Far cl 1-22 (YB31187) in Aug/90 by Sparkling Minerals Ltd which staked Near cl 1-30 (YB31463) to the south at the same time. The company carried out soil sampling and prospecting in the summer of 1991 and staked Bye cl 1-21 (YB40215) on the east boundary of the Far claims in Aug/91. In Jul/93, Sparkling Minerals Ltd trenched on the Far claims.
In Sep/93 Faith Mines Ltd staked the Lulu 1-22 cl (YB45533), End 1-10 cl (YB45555) and Begin 1-20 cl (YB45582) to the west of the Far claims. In Aug/94 Faith carried out magnetic and VLF-EM surveys on the Lulu claims. In Jul/95, Faith Mines added Lulu cl 23-32 (YB54193), and restaked the Begin claims as Begin cl 1-20, (YB54173) and Eagle claims 8, 10 and 12 (YB54170). During this same period the company completed a soil survey on the western end of Lulu claims 1-22.
Restaked as Redfox cl 1-16 (YC87130) and cl 17-32 (YC87307) cl 33-88 (YC88021) and cl 89-139 (YC87898) in Jun/2009 by Underworld Resources Ltd under an agreement with S. Ryan. Underworld staked Koala cl 1-32 (YC87323) and cl 33-48 (YC87730) to the north, and Rush cl 1-12 (YC95456), cl 13-24 (YC95444), cl 25-36 (YC95484) and cl 37-48 (YC95468) to the northeast in the same month.
In Jun/2009 a group consisting of F. Anderson, C. Schultze, J. Ziehe and Hinterland Metals Ltd staked CC cl 1-32 (YC95336) 2 km to the west. In Jul/2009 the group optioned the claims to Silver Quest Resources Ltd for cash, shares and certain work commitments. In Sep/2009 the company commenced a soil sampling and prospecting program.

Capsule Geology

The geology of the Stewart River Area was remapped by J. Ryan and S. Gordey (2004) of the Geological Survey of Canada beginning in 2000 as a component of the Ancient Pacific Margin NATMAP Project. The NATMAP Project is an interagency project initiated by the Geological Survey of Canada, Yukon Geology Program (now Yukon Geological Survey) and British Columbia Geological Survey Branch to understand the composition, relationships and metallogenic of poorly understood pericratonic terranes lying between the ancestral North American margin and those known with more certainty to be tectonically accreted. The Stewart River component focuses on the Yukon-Tanana terrane, comprising complexly deformed mostly (?) Paleozoic meta-igneous and metasedimentary rocks. In 2005 S. Gordey and J. Ryan released a geological compilation map for the Stewart River area. The map units generally remained the same as the 2004 geology map but age dates were changed to reflect new dates obtained through geochronology data.
J. Ryan reported that the Stewart River area is underlain by twice-transposed, amphibolite-facies gneiss and schist of mostly (?) Paleozoic age. These are intruded by younger plutonic rocks (Jurassic, Cretaceous and Eocene) and overlain by upper Cretaceous volcanic rocks. Metasiliclastic rocks are widespread and dominated by psammite and quartzite, with lesser pelite and rare conglomerate. Preliminary detrital zircon geochronology and geochronology for plutonic rocks constrain the siliclastic rocks to the Middle Paleozoic. Amphibolite interdigitates with and stratigraphically overlies the siliclastic rocks. Marble horizons ((?) reefs) occurs within the amphibolite and siliclastic rocks. Orthogneissic rocks with diorite, tonalite and granodiorite protoliths intrude both the siliclastic and amphibole assemblages; it is interpreted as a subvolcanic intrusive complex.
Geological mapping by J. Ryan and S. Gordey shows the occurrence area is cut by a major east-west trending structural zone (fault ?). On the north side of the structural zone the rocks consist of Devonian to Mississippian amphibolite and intermediate to mafic orthogneiss which are intruded by Permian K-feldspar rich granitic orthogneiss. South of the structural zone the rocks consist of a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian quartz-mica schist, mafic schist and amphibolite intruded by Permian K-feldspar augen orthogneiss.
Historically, the exact location of the occurrence has been in some doubt because the Ogilvie geology map (GSC Map 711A) and some earlier editions of the 1:50 000 topographical map for 115 O 3 switched Blueberry Creek with Lulu Creek. The Red claims (Y56735) were staked at the headwaters of Lulu Creek. F. Anderson, a geologist employed by Sparkling Minerals Inc confirmed the location of the occurrence in 1991 (pers. comm., 1992).
Development work in 1915 uncovered a 0.9 m quartz vein with pockets of galena, chalcopyrite and pyrite. A small, elliptical 100 gamma aeromagnetic anomaly occurs on the west side of Thistle Mountain.
Klondike Reef Mines Ltd staked the Cor claims to cover placer ground being worked by Faith Mines Ltd (an associated company). No assessment work was filed and the claims expired the next year.
Preliminary work by Sparkling Minerals Ltd outlined two gold geochemical anomalies and identified two distinct styles of quartz veining:
(1) Lenticular, discontinuous veins of massive quartz with occasional disseminated pyrite and specular hematite on ridge tops between Ballarat and Kirkman Creeks.
(2) Vuggy, limonitic quartz veins with up to 5% specular hematite, cutting pegmatitic quartz-feldspar dykes up to 2 m wide. Float samples of similar vein material contain pods of galena. A specimen of galena-bearing vein float contained 31.7 g/t gold, 75.4 g/t silver and 1.5% lead.
The results of Faith Mines' magnetic survey were relatively flat. The VLF-EM survey outlined several linear shape conductors located parallel to the claim baseline. The strongest were at the western end of the Lulu claims, where soil sampling returned weakly anomalous silver values but no significant gold values.
The principal target of the 2009 staking is a near surface, bulk tonnage gold deposit similar to new discoveries on Underworld Resources Inc's White Gold property (Minfile Occurrence #115O 165, 166 etc.) located approximately 23 km to the northwest from this occurrence.
