Work History
Staked as Sun cl 9-32 (Y5404) in May/66 by Kluane Exploration Ltd. The company also staked Sun cl 33-72 (5428) 1 km to the east at the same time. The company carried out geochemical surveys on both claim blocks.
Restaked as Monte cl 1-48 (Y43109) in Nov/69 by Marguerite Mines Ltd. Between October and Nov/69, the company also staked Mar cl 1-49 (Y38533), Ram cl 1-40 (Y38457), Arm 1-32 (Y38505), Carlo cl 1-44 (Y43149), Folly cl 1-22 (Y41498) and Freds cl 17-22 (Y43299). The entire package of claims was optioned in 1970 by Nippon Mining of Canada Ltd, which conducted grid soil sampling, geological mapping and bulldozer trenching.
In Nov/69 Brewster Lake Mines Ltd staked Folly cl 23-32 (Y43201) cl 45-54 (Y43043), cl 67-76 (Y43065) and cl 89-98 (Y43089) to the east of Marguerite Mines/Nippon Mining claim block. The company carried out reconnaissance scale soil sampling in early Jun/70. During the soil sampling program Brewster Lake staked Rain cl 1-9 (Y53501) to cover open ground located on the west side of the company’s Folly claims.
Restaked within Betty cl 1-564 (YD96501) in Sep/2010 by S. Ryan. On November 30/2010, Ethos Capital Corp optioned a 100% interest in the the claims from Ryan. The company added Betty cl 565-730 (YC133355) in Dec/2010.
Ethos Capital carried out “first pass” ridge and spur soiling, reconnaissance scale prospecting and geological mapping programs during the early part of the 2011 field season. As assay results were received, crews followed up anomalous results with detailed, grid based soil sampling. In Jul/2011 the company flew an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the entire claim block. Geophysical and geochemical anomalies were trenched and sampled.
In Aug/2011 the company added Betty claims 731-860 (YE2130).
GEOLOGY
The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation that covered this area. In 2006, M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane. Recently J. Ryan, C. Roots and others employed by the Geological Survey of Canada have been conducting geological mapping in the area as part of a joint project with the Yukon Geological Survey. Various maps and other products are tentatively scheduled to be pubically released in 2012.
The Betty property presently comprises 860 claims and is located east of Britannia Creek in west-central Yukon. The northern half of the property is underlain by metamorphic rocks which Gordey and Makepeace assigned to the Devonian to Mississippian Nasina assemblage. Recent work by J. Ryan suggests that these rocks likely belong to the slightly younger Permian aged Klondike Schist assemblage. The southern half of the property is intruded by mid-Cretaceous granodiorite assigned to the Dawson Range batholith.
The Marguerite occurrence (this occurrence) is underlain by metamorphic rocks located approximately 1 km north of the metamorphic/intrusive contact. Although no records can be found it appears the Sun claims were staked to explore for silver-lead veins similar to those found at the Bomber occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #115J 027) located 12.5 km to the southwest.
An examination of staking maps and sample result maps compiled by Marguerite Mines/Nippon Mining and Brewster Lake Mines indicates that Brewster Lake Mines’ Folly claims were staked overtop the eastern end of Marguerite Mines/Nippon Mining claim block. Consultants for both groups of companies reported that they could not located most of the claim posts in the area. In addition both groups collected samples on 122 m (400 foot) centres on lines separations measuring 122 m and 457 m (1 500 feet) respectively. Given the heavy undergrowth present in the area it appears portions of the companies grids overlapped.
Nippon Mining company identified 4 main copper soil anomalies trending east-west along the assumed contact between metamorphic and granitic rocks. The most significant anomaly, “B” , located aproximately 5 km to the southwest and measuring approximately 550 m long, returned 5 consecutive samples of greater than 90 ppm copper. Follow-up trenching exposed a small section of rusty colored skarn material, a grab sample of which assayed 400 ppm copper. A east-west line of soil samples trending through the occurrence and extending 750 m to the east, returned weakly anomalous copper values (~ 50 ppm).
Brewster Mines outlined a 240 by 460 m copper soil anomaly containing values up to 105 ppm copper approximately 1.5 km east of this occurrence. The anomaly appears to match a similar size anomaly containing values of up to 73 ppm copper identified by Nippon Mining. Nippon Mining’s lower result could have been caused by differences in sampling depth or by the larger line separation (475 m) employed by the company. Regardless neither company carried out any further work and allowed their respective claims to lapse in due course.
Ridge and spur soil sampling conducted in vicinity of this occurrence did not return any significant anomalous results. A reconnaissance prospecting grab sample collected from a outcrop in the vicinity of this occurrence returned 0.3 g/t gold and 37 g/t silver. The sample is described as silicified schist containing quartz, pyrite and galena veining.
