Work History
Staked as Cub cl 2-16 (Y44539) and 18-36 (Y44554in Dec/69 by the Grant Syndicate and sold in Jan/70 to Cleveland Mining and Smelting Company Ltd, following which Cleveland entered into a joint venture with Guardian Mines Ltd. The joint venture conducted geological mapping and grid soil sampling later in the year and added Cub cl 37-48 (Y53533) in Jul/70.
Restaked as H cl 1-90(YB37332) in Sep/92 by Pacific Sentinel Gold Corporation to protect numerous company owned placer claims and to provide an area for infrastructure planned for the neighboring Casino deposit (Minfile Occurrence #115J 028) located approximately 9 km to the northeast. Between 1993 and 94 the company carried out various geotechnical and environmental studies over the occurrence area.
In Nov/97 Pacific Sentinel merged with Consolidated North Coast Industries to form Great Basin Gold Ltd. No further assessment work was carried out in the vicinity of this occurrence by Great Basin and the claims were allowed to lapse in Mar/2002.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence is located approximately 9 km southwest of the Casino deposit (Minfile Occurrence #115J 028), one of the largest, highest grade porphyry deposits in Canada. The region is located within the Dawson Range, a west-central portion of the Yukon-Tanana terrane. The Yukon-Tanana terrane is comprised dominantly of metamorphic rocks inferred to be Devonian to Mississippian in age that has been intruded by numerous Mesozoic granitic bodies and plutons hosting copper, molybdenum and gold mineralization.
The occurrence area is underlain by hornblende-biotite diorite belonging to the mid-Cretaceous Dawson Range batholith. Geological mapping by Cleveland Mining and Smelting noted several weakly gossaned areas associated with granitic dyke swarms and a small roof pendant of Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks. A 900 m long zone near the centre of the claims returned anomalous copper and molybdenum values.
Pacific Sentinel¿s geotechnical and environmental studies identified the occurrence area as a possible borrow area for residual sands and broken rock. The material would used as construction material etc., if the neighboring Casino deposit obtains production status.
