Work History

Staked as Homestake cl (75321) in October 1960 by P.F. Guder and optioned to Meridian Synd (Canex, Noranda & Homestake), which performed mapping and geochem sampling and drilled 2 holes (104 m) in 1964. Later optioned to General Enterprises L in 1967 as part of the Revenue property and transferred in 1968 to a new company, Yukon Revenue ML. Kaiser Res L performed grid soil sampling and mapping near this target in 1970 as part of a large program on the adjoining Revenue occurrence.

The claims were optioned in 1983-1984 by Shakwak ECL, which sold its interest in 1985 to Nordac Mg Corp. Nordac performed grid soil sampling later in the year. Chevron Mls L tied on ACK cl (YA91836) to the south in June 1985 and performed geochemical sampling and mapping later in the year. Nordac changed its name to Big Creek Res L and entered a joint venture with Rexford Mls L (Big Creek JV) in 1987.

The In cl (YB25411) were tied on to the south of the Ack cl in January 1989 by B. Harris, who added more In claims in June 1989. In January 1994, the Homestake cl 1-2 (75321-75322) were transferred to ATAC Resources as part of their Golden Revenue property. ATAC performed prospecting at Meridian in 1999.

The Golden Revenue property, including the Meridian occurrence, was further consolidated in 2006 by Northern Freegold Resources. Northern Freegold Resources performed a property wide VTEM and magnetic airborne survey, including the Meridian occurrence, in 2006.

Triumph Gold acquired Northern Freegold Resources in 2015 and the property is now termed the Freegold Mountain Project.

Regional & Property Geology

The occurrence is partly underlain by Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT). The rocks of the YTT in this region consist of Early Mississippian metamorphic rocks separated into meta-sedimentary and meta-igneous suites. The meta-sedimentary suite consists of micaceous quartz-feldspar gneiss, schist and quartzite. The meta-igneous package is comprised of biotite-hornblende feldspar gneiss and coarse-grained granodiorite orthogneiss with lesser amphibolite.

The YTT basement rocks are cut by numerous plutonic and volcanic events from the Mesozoic (Allan & Friend, 2018), including:
1. Early Jurassic monzonite to syenite plutonic suites;
2. Mid-Cretaceous Mount Nansen Suite andesite and rhyolite tuff-breccia;
3. Mid-Cretaceous Whitehorse granodiorite;
4. Late Cretaceous Prospector Mountain syenite; and,
5. Quartz feldspar and feldspar hornblende porphyry dykes and plugs.

Mineralization & Results

Minor galena and sphalerite occur in a quartz-carbonate vein zone that cuts chlorite schist and quartz diorite. A 1999 sample of this material returned 0.54 g/t gold, 157.0 g/t silver, 0.5% lead and 0.5% zinc (AR 094102).
