Work History

The area northeast and northwest of the Tantalus Butte Mine was acquired in Sep/70 as Coal Exploration Licences 15 and 16 respectively by Teslin EL, which mapped and conducted test geophysics in 1970-72 and drilled 2 holes (84 m) in 1973. Two coal leases (2963 and 1966) were staked by Teslin EL in Nov/73.
The Cliffside Agate cl (YA86840) was staked 2 km west in Jun/85 by Whitehorse Gem and Ml Club. F. Dorward staked Coal Agate cl (YB6928) 2 km south of the 1985 claim in Aug/87 and performed prospecting and hand trenching on both claims in 1987-88.

Capsule Geology

The holes cut steep, westerly dipping Tantalus Formation on the west limb of a tight anticline. The holes cut narrow coal bands up to 9 cm thick. The known coal showings gave a slight EM-16 response but were not detectable with IP.
