Work History
Staked by H.E. Porter in Oct/1900 as coal lease 1447, which was soon surrounded by at least twenty others. No record of early development exists.
Restaked as May cl (Y51874) in Apr/70 by P.F. Guder, and sampled by Teslin EL in 1970. The target was acquired in Jan/76 under Coal Exploration Licence 36 by Resoursex L, and was leased in Feb/81 (2988) by Fargo O Corp.
The Greek cl (YA74993) were staked one km to the south in Aug/82 by Uranerz E & Mg L in a joint venture with Central Electricity Generating Board of London, England and explored with radiometric surveys.
Capsule Geology
Thin seams (up to 41 cm) of anthracite occur in contorted beds of Upper Jurassic Tantalus Formation rocks near the contact of a syenite stock. An analysis by the Department of Mines in 1910 gave water 4.68%, fixed carbon 72.26%, ash 7.47% and non-coherent coke 79.73%. The Research Council of Alberta gives the gross calorific value as 15 700 to 16 000 G. BTU.
Bulldozing has exposed coal on the east side of the Klondike Highway at Mileposts 85.5 and 88.0. Samples taken by Teslin EL from 3 localities ranged from 8.0 to 19.3% water, 11.8 to 50.9% ash, 11.2 to 14.7% volatiles, 23.9 to 66.5% fixed carbon and 0.5 to 0.6% sulphur. Rank ranged from sub-bituminous A to sub-bituminous C and dry calorific value from 4750 to 10 340 BTU/lb, all non-coking.
The Greek claims were staked to cover low grade uranium associated with clay altered shear zones.
