Work History

Two old shafts, a caved adit and a slumped cabin were found (likely in the summer of 1988) at the lower location, (occurrence A) by NDU Resources Ltd, which performed prospecting and sampling nearby but staked no claims. No old claim records or history have been located.

Capsule Geology

The occurrence area is located mid-way up a south facing ridge approximately 3 km southeast of Stand To Hill and 2 to 3 km north of the Ladue River. L.H. Green of the Geological Survey of Canada mapped the area at 1:250 000 scale in 1961 as part of a helicopter-supported party known as "Operation Ogilvie". The area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey however C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheet 105M located directly to the south in the mid-1990's. In addition Gordey, Abbott and Roots (1990) remapped topographic map sheets 105M/16, 106D/01 and 106D/07East & 08 respectively in the late 1980's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area.
Extrapolating C. Roots geological mapping north, occurrence A is underlain by Middle to Late Devonian Earn Group penetratively deformed metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks. Occurrence B located 1.5 km to the north is underlain by Early Carboniferous Keno Hill Quartzite. The entire sequence is intruded by numerous Triassic aged tabular shaped metamorphosed mafic igneous intrusions. The old workings located at occurrence A, tested ferricrete gossans on a terrace. Sampling of the dumps and immediate vicinity gave background results and no mineralization was found. Prospecting uphill to occurrence B uncovered a 20 cm wide vein cutting Early Carboniferous Hill Quartzite that has been intruded by Triassic greenstone sills. A specimen assayed 435.4 g/t silver, 18.3% lead and 1.4% zinc.

* Archer, Cathro and Associates (1981) Ltd managed NDU Resources' exploration programs. Archer, Cathro also created and maintained the Northern Cordillera Mineral Inventory Database, the predecessor to the Yukon Minfile Database. It's likely Archer, Cathro found the showings during a prospecting traverse and only shared the details with NDU Resources.
