Work History
Originally staked as Canyon cl 301-320 (YA85406) in Jan/84 by Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Ltd which staked Canyon cl 41-300 (YA81160) to the southeast at the same time. Hudson Bay carried out geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical sampling in 1984 and 1985. The claims were staked under an option agreement with A. Carlos, who a year earlier had staked Canyon cl 1-40 (YA75717) also to the southeast (Minfile Occurrence #105K 009).
In the summer of 1987 W.H. Pinkenburg staked WHP cl 1-8 (YB07677) 3 km to the southeast and carried out geochemical sampling, prospecting, hand trenching and drilled two packsack drill holes (4.6 m).
In Sep/87 Carlos optioned the Canyon claims to a joint venture group consisting of Noranda Exploration Company Ltd, Brenda Mining Ltd, Hemlo Gold Mines Ltd and Goldnev Resources Inc, which carried out geochemical sampling and staked Can cl 1-94, 101-110, 113-147 and 149 (YB07880) to form a contiguous block with the existing Canyon claims. In Nov/87, Noranda staked Ran cl 1-90, 159-197 and 709-720 contiguously to the northwest and carried out geological mapping, geochemical sampling and airborne geophysical surveying in 1988. Goldnev acquired a 100% working interest in the joint venture in 1989 and carried out drilling on the Main zone located approximately 20 km to the southeast. In 1991, Goldnev carried out trenching west of this occurrence before returning the property to Carlos later in the year.
In Feb/92 Carlos optioned the property to YGC Resources Ltd. In 1993 YGC carried out EM surveying and drilled 4 holes (440.1 m) on the Km 410 grid (1 km west of this occurrence location), as part of a larger exploration program on the property. In 1996 YGC drilled one hole (83.2 m) on the Km 410 grid and carried out definition drilling on the Main zone, before electing not to complete the final year of the option agreement and returning the property to Carlos.
In Jul/99 Carlos staked Dozer cl 1-14 (YC18135) 2 km east of this occurrence location and carried out geochemical soil sampling that year and line cutting and geochemical sampling in 2000. Carlos staked Kaolin cl 1-3 (YC18762) in Jul/2000, I km west of the occurrence location and carried out linecutting and geochemical sampling, before adding Kaolin cl 4-10 (YC19300) in Jul/2001 and Kaolin cl 11-12 (YC19374) in Sep/2001. Carlos drilled one hole (71.6 m) in Sep/2001 on Kaolin cl 2. In 2003 Carlos carried out geophysical EM and magnetometer surveying of the Dozer claims.
The Dozer and Kaolin claims and 166 other claims located to the southeast, which together constituted the Grew Creek Property, were optioned by Freegold Ventures Ltd in Jul/2004. Freegold staked Rail cl 1-178 (YC37806) in Dec/2004, consolidating the property by forming a contiguous block of claims that included all of the earlier optioned claims.
In Jan/2008 Carlos optioned the Grew Creek property to Emerick Resources Corporation which completed a compilation report in May/2008. Carlos carried out enzyme leach sampling in 2008. In 2009, Emerick completed nine diamond drillholes (1 592.3 m) on the Grew Creek property. The holes tested Enzyme Leach soil anomalies located at various zones. Five holes (767.3 m) tested two soil targets located in the KM 410 zone. One of the diamond drill holes was lost in overburden. The remaining four diamond drill holes tested the Maverick (Minfile Occurrence #105K 093) and Rat Creek (Minfile Occurrence 105K 009) zones.
Capsule Geology
Tertiary volcanic rocks outcrop within fault slices of Pennsylvanian to Permian chert, tuff and basalt of the Anvil Range Group north ot the Grew Creek fault. In 1991, a trench in this zone uncovered intensely iron stained, highly fractured acid leached volcanic rocks. Carlos excavated four hand pits to bedrock in 1992 and encountered intensely clay-altered Eocene sediments with hematite-rich bands. Samples from the pits returned anomalous values of mercury and barium, and a heavy mineral concentrate from 45 kg of glacial till in Pit #2 assayed 9 320 ppb Au.
The 1993 and 1996 drilling tested the intensely clay-altered Eocene (?) sediments. The holes intersected strongly altered feldspar and quartz porphyritic and brecciated rocks similar to those hosting the mineralized Main zone located 20 km southwest (Minfile Occurrence #105K 009) as well as strongly lithified sandstone and conglomerate. Argillic and phyllic alteration is prevalent throughout with acid leaching most common in the upper section of the hole. Sericitization, feldspathization and pyritization occur with local quartz-adularia veining. Only weakly anomalous Au values were returned from sampling of the core.
Analysis by enzyme leach of the samples collected in 2000 identified distinctive oxidation anomalies on both the Dozer and Kaolin claim blocks. The oxidation anomaly identified on the Dozer claims was interpreted to represent a potentially mineralized northwest trending fault zone. A magnetic anomaly, partially coincident with an EM conductor was subsequently identified flanking this oxidation anomaly. Drilling in 2001, on the stongest of two oxidation anomalies on the Kaolin claims intersected hydrothermally altered and brecciated sandstone and conglomerate within a fault zone. Sampling of core returned weakly anomalous Au values.
Work in 2004 was focused 18 km to the southeast where drilling was carried out on the main zone of the Grew Creek deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105K 009).
