Staked as X cl -96 (Y3840) in Mar/66 by Action Exploration Ltd, which carried out airborne magnetometer and EM surveys, geological mapping and soil sampling later in the year. The adjoining Falcon cl 1-32 (Y3619) on the north side were staked the same month by Malta Mines Ltd. Malta also carried out airborne magnetometer and EM surveys in 1966.
The northern portion of the X claims group was partially restaked as Taf cl 1-6 (Y62459) and cl 17-12 (Y62467) in Sep/71 by Kangaroo Exploration Ltd which carried out geological mapping and grid soil sampling that year.
In Apr/74 Ridgemont Mining Corporation (predecessor of Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation) staked Fat cl 1-130 (Y78290) northeast of the occurrence location. The company carried out ground magnetometer, Turam and gravity surveying in 1974.
In Mar/75 the Vangorda Project (Welcome North Mines Ltd and Getty Mines Ltd), staked Wynne cl 1-36 (Y92748) to the northwest and carried out geochemical, magnetometer and EM surveys later in the year. In 1976 the project group carried out geological mapping, gravity and Turam geophysical surveys and drilled two diamond drill holes (474.3 m). In 1977 the project group carried out additional magnetometer, EM and gravity surveys and collared 3 diamond drill holes (284.7 m).
In Sep/77 Mackir Mining Ltd staked Rog cl 1-35 (YA19741) on the northern boundary of the Wayne claims.
Cyprus Anvil entered into a joint venture with Metallgesellschaft Canada Ltd in 1977 and carried out gravity surveys later in the year. The companies added Foo cl 16-56 (YA74085) on the northern boundary of the Rog claims in Oct/81 and carried out geological mapping and geochemical surveys in 1982.
In Aug/86 B. Harris restaked the occurrence within Cody cl 1-40 (YA95507). The occurrence lay in the southeast corner of the claim block. B. Harris immediately sold the claims to T. Peever who, later in the summer carried out reconnaissance scale prospecting and rock sampling programs in and around this occurrence and the Cirque occurrence located 1.5 km to the northwest (Minfile Occurrence #105K 052). The results of this program resulted in Peever optioning the claims to Doron Exploration Inc.
In Jun/87 Doron Exploration staked Ruby cl 1-20 (YB806079) on north and west sides of the Cody claims. In July and Aug/87 the company prospected and hand trenched the Cirque occurrence located to the northwest. In Dec/87 the company staked Ruby cl 21-56 (YB12689) on the west and south sides of the Cody claims.
In 1988 the Doron Exploration optioned the entire property to Lacana Mining Corporation although Doron remained the property operator. The company carried out a large regional exploration program from mid-May through to mid-July/88 the results of which led the company to expand the property 4 fold.
In Jul/88 Doron Exploration surrounded the Cody and Ruby claims with Pur cl 1-236 (YB20859) and staked Scot cl 1-30 (YB21111) on the northeast side of the property. The company also staked Pur cl 237-280 (YB21487) on the southwest side of the property. The expanded property covers Minfile Occurrences #105K 084, and 052 located to the northwest and Minfile Occurrence #105K 053, located to the southwest. Please refer to these occurrences for exploration work carried out in their vicinity.
Restaked as Shari cl 1-4 (YB57963) by B. Kreft in Jul/95. Kreft also staked Pat cl 1-2 (YB57967) 1 km to the north at the same time.
Between Oct/97 and Apr/98 P. Risby restaked the occurrence within JRV’S cl 21-174 (YC08376 - not staked sequentially). Once registered the claims were transferred to the Gullen Risby Family Trust.
Western Prospector Group Ltd optioned the JRV’S claims in Apr/98 and carried out a two day property examination (with Columbia Gold Mines Ltd) in May/98 which covered the Cirque zone (Minfile Occurrence #105K 052) the Arseno zone (formerly Arsenopyrite zone - Minfile Occurrence #105K 053) and the Krist and Creek zones (this occurrence). In Jul/98 the companies returned and spent two days collecting additional rock samples from the Cirque and Arseno zones and soil samples from the Arseno zone.
In 1999 the option on the JRV’S claims was assigned to Pacific Ridge Exploration Ltd who carried out large exploration program on the Arseno, Dyke and Risby showings (Minfile Occurrence #105K 053). As part of this program the Bubble showing (this occurrence) was prospected and sampled.
In Mar/2007 P. Risby restaked the occurrence within JRV cl 1-24 (YC59918 – note dropping of “’S”) for the Gullen Risby Family Trust.
Restaked within Snap cl 1-73 (YD11849) in Nov/2010 by Strategic Metals Ltd. The company added Snap cl 74-157 (YD12170) in Dec/2010. The claims were staked as part of the company’s enlargement of their Silver Range project which at the time was focused on the Keg occurrence/deposit (Yukon Minfile 105K 078) located approximately 30.5 km to the northwest.
On January 11, 2011 Strategic Metals announced its intention to spin-out the Silver Range Project and the gold rich Mint Project (Minfile Occurrence 115F 087) located in southwestern Yukon into a new precious metal focused company; Silver Range Resources Ltd. The company and its shareholders would receive shares and purchase warrants in the new company.
During the 2011 exploration season Strategic Metal/Silver Range Resources carried out grid soil sampling over the entire Snap zone which included this occurrence. The company also prospected and rock sampled the Bubble, Krist and Creek showings which make up this occurrence. In 2012 Silver Range Resources collected additional rock samples at the Bubble showing.
No further exploration work has since been carried out on the vicinity of the occurrence.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence is located approximately 12 km northwest of the historical Faro mine and mill site and 18 km northwest of the town of Faro in east central Yukon. The Faro area is world renowned for its zinc-lead-silver-barite massive sulphide deposits, mining of which began in 1969 and continued with interruptions until 1997. Access to the occurrence location is currently provided by helicopter however a rough tote road exists that runs north from the former Faro mine site to the occurrence area.
The occurrence is located within the Selwyn Basin a tectonic element comprising deep water clastic rocks, chert and minor carbonate that accumulated along the North American continental margin during Paleozoic time. In the occurrence area the Selwyn Basin lies immediately northeast of units belonging to Slide Mountain and Yukon-Tanana Terranes the most easterly of the allochthonous terranes. Deformation and metamorphism associated with accretion of the terranes was initiated in Jurassic and culminated in Cretaceous. More recently, strike-slip faulting along the Tintina fault resulted in about 450 km of dextral offset during Early Tertiary time. The area is located about 40 km northeast of the fault.
The area is covered by deep overburden which makes geological mapping difficult. Based on limited mapping and drill-hole information the area is underlain by non-calcareous schist, phyllite and gneiss with lesser carbonaceous phyllite, marble, calc-silicate schist and metabasite assigned by Pigage (2004-10) to the Upper Proterozoic to Cambrian Mount Mye Formation. Geologists employed by Silver Range Resources assigned the rocks to the Gull Formation which is a regional designation in the Selwyn Basin; the Mount Mye Formation applies to units in the more specific Anvil district.
The Mount Mye Formation rocks are intruded by granite, quartz monzonite, granodiorite and minor syenite of the mid-Cretaceous Anvil Batholith. The Mount Mye rocks form large roof pendants within the batholith and have been intruded by granitic sills that are coeval with the batholith. Both the roof pendants and batholith have been cut by green, fine-grained andesite to coarse grained hornblende-plagioclase porphyry dykes and quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes of likely mid-Cretaceous or Early Tertiary age. Quaternary alluvium, glacial and glaciofluvial deposits blanket broad valleys in the area.
Exploration carried out prior to 1986 was focused on identifying massive sulphide mineralization similar to that found on the neighbouring Faro property/mine (Yukon Minfile #105K 061) located approximately 12 km to the southwest. Soil sampling carried out by Action Explorations outlined highly anomalous lead and zinc and weakly anomalous copper values along the southern boundary of the X claims. The line of samples roughly follows a northeast-southwest direction that cuts through the Creek and Krist showings. Action Explorations noted the geochemical anomaly was underlain by granite assigned to the Anvil Batholith thus the anomaly could not be hosted by massive sulphide mineralization. The company did suggest that the anomaly could be hosted by narrow vein-type deposits of argeniferous galena and sphalerite.
The Falcon claims were staked north of the X claims, in an area underlain by Mount Mye metamorphic rocks. Geophysics outlined two EM conductors in the southeast corner of the claim block which the company never followed up.
The Taf claims covered phyllite, schist and gneissic rocks located north of the Anvil batholith. Geological mapping outlined an area located north of the occurrence, underlain by metamorphic rocks, which hosted numerous granitic porphyry dykes and quartz veins. No significant mineralization was found.
Exploration work carried out by Ridgemont Mining, the Vangorda Project and Cyprus Anvil was centered on identifying massive sulphide mineralization within the Mount Mye formation. Numerous geochemical and geophysical anomalous were found. Diamond drilling carried by the Vangorda Project in 1976 -77 tested many of the targets and failed to intersect any significant mineralization.
Exploration carried out since 1986 in the vicinity of the occurrence has been focused on identifying and evaluating the numerous silver +/- gold-bearing quartz veins hosted within the Anvil Batholith.
The occurrence lies within the northern half of a northeast trending mineralized zone which Silver Range Resources labeled the Snap zone. The Snap zone measures approximately 3 200 m long by 2 800 m wide and is centered over a northeast trending ridge. The zone consists of 6 separate showings; Arseno, Dyke and Risby (Minfile Occurrence #105K 053) and Bubble, Creek and Krist (this occurrence). All 6 areas are hosted within the Anvil Batholith granite which is overlain by roof pendants of foliated gneiss along parts of the ridge crests. Felsic dykes cut both units in the vicinity of the Dyke and Bubble showings.
No one knows when the silver bearing quartz veins were first discovered. Doron Exploration assessment reports note that the veins were likely discovered during the search for massive sulphide mineralization. T. Peever appears to have been the first person to formally sample the Bubble showing. In 1986 Peever collected a rock sample from the middle of a quartz chalcedony vein containing disseminated sulphide which assayed 58.97 g/t silver and 0.103 g/t gold. Doron Exploration’s 1987 exploration program focused on the Cirque occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #105K 052) located 3 km to the northwest.
In 1988 Doron Exploration geologically mapped and prospected the area surrounding the Bubble, Krist and Creek showings. At the Bubble showing (which the company called the East Ridge area), the company mapped quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes cutting Anvil batholith granite. Chalcedony vein float was noted in the area but no samples appear to have been collected. Rock samples collected from quartz veins located at the Creek and Krist showings returned assays of up to 130 g/t silver and 5 850 ppb gold and 7.4 ppm silver and 1 380 ppb gold respectively.
It appears B. Kreft did not carry out any work on the Shari claims.
Western Prospector Group’s 2 day property evaluation was centered on the Cirque occurrence located to the northwest and the Arseno occurrence located to the southwest. The company carried out a cursory examination of the Krist showings and the Creek showings. Prior to Western Prospector’s examination, the exact location of the Krist showing was unknown. Doron Exploration collected samples in the vicinity of the showing. Western Prospector actually sampled the showing. The company described the showing as fracture-controlled, cross-cutting quartz-calcite-veins containing galena-sphalerite and arsenopyrite mineralization located within a shear zone and hosted within a 3 to 10 m wide zone of limonitic and argillically-altered granite. A 1 m chip sample returned 112 g/t silver and 0.01 g/t gold.
The Creek showing was discovered while flying between other showings located on the claim block. Geologist spotted a prominent gossan within a deep creek cut and hiked down to investigate it. The showing is described as a southeasterly trending shear zone exposed in the creek bed. The shear zone measures 3 to 5 m wide and cuts limonitic altered granitic rocks. At regular intervals the shear zone is intersected by other vertical cross-cutting shears. Local narrow fracture filling quartz veins containing pyrite and galena mineralization occupy parts of the shear zones. Most samples did not return any significant mineralization except for a 5 cm wide semi-massive pyrite-galena vein which returned 170 g/t silver and 0.02 g/t gold.
Although, the Western Prospector Group did not report visiting the Bubble showing in 1998, the compilation map included in Assessment Report #093875 appears to display numerous sample results from in and around the showing. The best results appears to be 422.0 g/t silver and 0.08 g/t gold over 20 m from a sample collected towards the northern end of the quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes.
The Bubble showing was geologically mapped and sampled in 1999 by Pacific Ridge Exploration as part of a larger exploration program focused on the southern half of the Snap zone. The showing consists of two feldspar-porphyry dykes trending northwest - southeast. The larger dyke measures approximately 1 400 m long while the shorter dyke measures approximately 1 100 m long. Blanchflower (1999) described the showing as consisting of rusty weathering, aphanitic to fine grained quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes which cut granitic rocks. The dykes have been subsequently brecciated and silicified. Quartz-chalcedony stockwork veins and breccia matrix host very fine grained galena, sphalerite, pyrite and arsenopyrite. The showing was named for the many vugs and microlitic cavities that are present within the dykes. Blanchflower theorized that the Bubble showing hosted mesothermal, fracture controlled mineralization which was overprinted by later epithermal style veining. The mesothermal veining accounts for the lower grade mineralization while the epithermal mineralization hosts the higher grade mineralization. The best grab sample returned 175.4 g/t silver and 0.026 g/t gold. Other samples return much lower values (2.5 g/t silver to 36.8 g/t silver.
P. Risby held onto the JRV’S claims as long as possible however the last of the JRV’s claims lapsed in Oct/2005. Between Oct/97 and Apr/98 Risby restaked the various showings within the JRV claims (note the dropping of the “’S” from new claims). Risby appears to have paid “in lieu” to keep the principal claims in good standing.
Strategic Metals staked the Snap claims following the discovery of silver-polymetallic mineralization in the fall of 2010 at the Keg Main zone (Minfile Occurrence #105K 078) located approximately 30.5 km to the northwest. Early exploration carried out by Silver Range Resources (company spun off from Strategic Metals) outlined a mineralized zone measuring approximately 3 200 m long by 2 800 m wide that is centered over a northeast trending ridge. Silver Range named this area the Snap zone. Grid soil sampling carried out in 2011 outlined a silver (2 to 78.8 g/t), lead (200-7 360 ppm) and tin (20 to 302 ppm) anomaly measuring approximately 2 700 m long by 2 500 m wide within the mineralized zone.
Silver Range Resources prospected and sampled the Creek, Krist and Bubble showings in 2011 and the Krist and Bubble showings in 2012. The majority of the rock samples were collected from the Bubble showing. Other than mentioning that the veins display both epithermal and mesothermal characteristics suggesting overlapping mineralizing events may have occurred, the company has not publicly released any assay results for the three showings.

Felsic dykes cut both units in the vicinity of the Dyke and Bubble showings.
No one knows when the silver bearing quartz veins were first discovered. Doron Exploration assessment reports note that the veins were likely discovered during the search for massive sulphide mineralization. T. Peever appears to have been the first person to formally sample the Bubble showing. In 1986 Peever collected a rock sample from the middle of a quartz chalcedony vein containing disseminated sulphide which assayed 58.97 g/t silver and 0.103 g/t gold. Doron Exploration’s 1987 exploration program focused on the Cirque occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #105K 052) located 3 km to the northwest.
In 1988 Doron Exploration geologically mapped and prospected the area surrounding the Bubble, Krist and Creek showings. At the Bubble showing (which the company called the East Ridge area), the company mapped quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes cutting Anvil batholith granite. Chalcedony vein float was noted in the area but no samples appear to have been collected. Rock samples collected from quartz veins located at the Creek and Krist showings returned assays of up to 130 g/t silver and 5 850 ppb gold and 7.4 ppm silver and 1 380 ppb gold respectively.
It appears B. Kreft did not carry out any work on the Shari claims.
Western Prospector Group’s 2 day property evaluation was centered on the Cirque occurrence located to the northwest and the Arseno occurrence located to the southwest. The company carried out a cursory examination of the Krist showings and the Creek showings. Prior to Western Prospector’s examination, the exact location of the Krist showing was unknown. Doron Exploration collected samples in the vicinity of the showing. Western Prospector actually sampled the showing. The company described the showing as fracture-controlled, cross-cutting quartz-calcite-veins containing galena-sphalerite and arsenopyrite mineralization located within a shear zone and hosted within a 3 to 10 m wide zone of limonitic and argillically-altered granite. A 1 m chip sample returned 112 g/t silver and 0.01 g/t gold.
The Creek showing was discovered while flying between other showings located on the claim block. Geologist spotted a prominent gossan within a deep creek cut and hiked down to investigate it. The showing is described as a southeasterly trending shear zone exposed in the creek bed. The shear zone measures 3 to 5 m wide and cuts limonitic altered granitic rocks. At regular intervals the shear zone is intersected by other vertical cross-cutting shears. Local narrow fracture filling quartz veins containing pyrite and galena mineralization occupy parts of the shear zones. Most samples did not return any significant mineralization except for a 5 cm wide semi-massive pyrite-galena vein which returned 170 g/t silver and 0.02 g/t gold.
Although, the Western Prospector Group did not report visiting the Bubble showing in 1998, the compilation map included in Assessment Report #093875 appears to display numerous sample results from in and around the showing. The best results appears to be 422.0 g/t silver and 0.08 g/t gold over 20 m from a sample collected towards the northern end of the quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes.
The Bubble showing was geologically mapped and sampled in 1999 by Pacific Ridge Exploration as part of a larger exploration program focused on the southern half of the Snap zone. The showing consists of two feldspar-porphyry dykes trending northwest - southeast. The larger dyke measures approximately 1 400 m long while the shorter dyke measures approximately 1 100 m long. Blanchflower (1999) described the showing as consisting of rusty weathering, aphanitic to fine grained quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes which cut granitic rocks. The dykes have been subsequently brecciated and silicified. Quartz-chalcedony stockwork veins and breccia matrix host very fine grained galena, sphalerite, pyrite and arsenopyrite. The showing was named for the many vugs and microlitic cavities that are present within the dykes. Blanchflower theorized that the Bubble showing hosted mesothermal, fracture controlled mineralization which was overprinted by later epithermal style veining. The mesothermal veining accounts for the lower grade mineralization while the epithermal mineralization hosts the higher grade mineralization. The best grab sample returned 175.4 g/t silver and 0.026 g/t gold. Other samples return much lower values (2.5 g/t silver to 36.8 g/t silver.
P. Risby held onto the JRV’S claims as long as possible however the last of the JRV’s claims lapsed in Oct/2005. Between Oct/97 and Apr/98 Risby restaked the various showings within the JRV claims (note the dropping of the “’S” from new claims). Risby appears to have paid “in lieu” to keep the principal claims in good standing.
Strategic Metals staked the Snap claims following the discovery of silver-polymetallic mineralization in the fall of 2010 at the Keg Main zone (Minfile Occurrence #105K 078) located approximately 30.5 km to the northwest. Early exploration carried out by Silver Range Resources (company spun off from Strategic Metals) outlined a mineralized zone measuring approximately 3 200 m long by 2 800 m wide that is centered over a northeast trending ridge. Silver Range named this area the Snap zone. Grid soil sampling carried out in 2011 outlined a silver (2 to 78.8 g/t), lead (200-7 360 ppm) and tin (20 to 302 ppm) anomaly measuring approximately 2 700 m long by 2 500 m wide within the mineralized zone.
Silver Range Resources prospected and sampled the Creek, Krist and Bubble showings in 2011 and the Krist and Bubble showings in 2012. The majority of the rock samples were collected from the Bubble showing. Other than mentioning that the veins display both epithermal and mesothermal characteristics suggesting overlapping mineralizing events may have occurred, the company has not publicly released any assay results for the three showings.
